It all started one sunny summer day......When my
second child was born, I quit work. After ten years at
Nordstrom plus a stint in sales at Cox Communications, I had
the opportunity to quit my job and spend time with my kids.
As they got older and started school I began searching for
something that I would love to do and contribute to the
family. I explored many careers from massage therapist
to a deaf interpreter. I wanted to do something in the
school system so I could work around my children's schedule
so I applied to a graduate program to be a school counselor.
I was excited to be one of only 3e people to move on to the
interview process but ended up not being one of the 13 final
people selected. I was very disappointed and was lamenting
that fact to my husband Rodger. Which brings me to that
spring day... when someone broke into my home and stole all
my jewelry. It was a typical, beautiful hot and sunny
Southern California day as I drove the three blocks to the
school to pick up my daughter. Knowing I was only
going to be away for ten minutes and that we lived on a
small, quiet and hidden cul-de-sac, I left the front window
by the front door open to let air in to the house.
When I returned I found the screen on that window cut and
the front door open. Someone had come in and scooped
up all my jewelry in a matter of seconds. I was
heartbroken to lose a pearl ring my mother had given me as a
teenager and two expensive Italian bracelets with my
children's names on them. I was scared, I was
dismayed....I was angry.
Speaking with my best friend Kelly, who lives in Colorado
(We even bought her house when they moved from San Diego to
Boulder) about the the robbery, she mentioned that she had
just attended a sterling silver jewelry home party and she
almost screamed to me "You have to do this!" I
went on the companies web site and liked what I saw. Though
my application to grad school was still open, I thought that
this was a great opportunity to earn a few extra dollars to
help pay some bills while I went to school and started work
as a school counselor... which brings me back to the
conversation with my husband. Rodger owned his own
business for twenty years, speaks professionally on business
strategies and marketing... he knows his stuff. He looks at
me in between my complaining and said, "You know, you are
really, really awesome at the jewelry home shows, why
don't you give that a chance?"
I have never looked back since that moment...especially
the month when my override commission paid our home
mortgage. I want to give you the opportunity I have
been given and earn money, get respect, and love your job!
